Family of God Podcast
by Miriam Rossow on July 15th, 2020
Coronavirus and social unrest have had Pastor Hill and I thinking about how we can better serve our community and better serve our volunteers. The pandemic and shutdown have given us a lot of time to explore other avenues of doing ministry. Obviously, there is the street ministry that many of you are up to date on and the continuing food ministry. We also took some time during the pandemic to explore technological ministry, as so many other churches have, and began putting services, discussions, devotions, and sermons on our Facebook page.

Where are the Ferrys?
by Miriam Rossow on July 7th, 2020
Often during the summer, missionaries get to come home, visit family and friends, visit churches thanking them for their support and letting them know a little more about how Jesus is working in and through them. This summer everything is different. Flights in and out of countries are hard to find. Churches are not open the way they have been in the past. Having a lunch or large gathering is not as simple as saying come and join us during these times. The Ferry's children had many reactions to the news that they would not be headed to the states this summer. Here is an excerpt from a note they sent and a video from the children sharing some feelings and a blessing for you.
Bearing One Another's Burdens
by Miriam Rossow on May 7th, 2020
The pandemic for the under-resourced Family of God congregants means another ‘rung down the social and economic ladder’. Already in a place that nobody wants to be in, life just got harder. The ‘luxury’ of sitting down and eating their one decent meal a day inside the church building and being able to rest in the hearing of God’s Word has evaporated for the time being.
Blessings in Belize
by Miriam Rossow on April 16th, 2020
“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” 1 Corinthians 12:12 The above mentioned Bible verse was used in two of our devotions during the trip. This was only my second mission trip but in both cases I was struck by our mission team. This is a group of fellow Christians who live together, work together, eat together, pray together. A week could be a long time to be in constant contact with a group of virtual strangers. It was a true blessing.
Family of God vs. Coronavirus
by Miriam Rossow on April 1st, 2020
By Rev. Tyler Cronkright As if Family of God wasn’t unique enough. As many churches are taking a break from regular gatherings, Family of God has followed suit and has had to get creative with the ways that we do ministry on a regular basis. Our fellowship hall, which regularly held close to 100 people on any given night, is empty. Our beautiful sanctuary, where many people gather every Wednesday ...

Recently I have worn this hat more than any other in my regular rotation. I wear it to constantly remind me of the grace and mercy that God has shown me through His Son Jesus Christ. I have found that it holds me accountable to the things that I say and do, especially as I pastor in a very difficult place with Pastor Hill. We don’t talk much about the struggles about Family of God. You can read more about that in the book that I will write in a few years, assuming I can get Pastor Hill to write the forward. But these next few lines are a few of my confessions as an inner-city pastor.
Leaving with a Stronger Faith

The relationships I have built and encounters I have had with so many members of our community have forever changed my life.
Stretching Your Comfort Zone
by Miriam Rossow on February 20th, 2020
Do you like to try new things? Do you welcome new experiences? Have you ever felt stretched beyond your personal comfort zone? Would you prayerfully consider going on an international mission trip with other Christ Our Savior members?
by Miriam Rossow on February 17th, 2020
The AAA (Alternative Answers to Abortion) Pregnancy Resource Center is a Christ-centered safe haven for women of all ages who find themselves struggling with an unplanned pregnancy. They are a place that my family has been blessed to be able to support and be a part of for many years.
Mobile Compassion Ministry
by Miriam Rossow on February 6th, 2020
Saturday, January 18th, most of us woke up to 3"- 6” of snow. I know it took my son-in-law and I three hours to dig out at my house. I imagine you might have had similar experiences. As things happened, that same day was the inaugural run of the mobile compassion ministry at Family of God. Things did not go exactly as planned but the team adjusted and prevailed over the weather.
Thank you from Pastor Cronkright
by Miriam Rossow on January 24th, 2020
Seven years ago, I had big plans to go the Seminary and anxiously wait to see where God would call me with many other brothers in ministry who were also anticipating their first calls as pastors. I blame Pastor Jim for this not coming true. As many of you know, he had promised me the adventure of a lifetime if I stayed in Detroit and trusted him and God.
Bringing Sight and the Love of Jesus to South Africa
by Miriam Rossow on January 18th, 2020
We had no idea what to expect when we signed up for the South Africa mission trip. We had heard stories of sleeping on the ground (thank God, we had beds!), we had no idea what kinds of food they ate (from the mundane of McDonald’s to the exotic of wildebeest), whether was it safe (meh, safe enough) and what would it feel like to be a minority since the Republic of South Africa is less than 10% Caucasian and apartheid is still a bitter, sensitive memory for the country (the many Zulu we met were very accepting and open).
Family of God Street Ministry
by Miriam Rossow on January 10th, 2020
Almost three years have gone by since Family of God moved from the little store front church on Sharon and Vernor to our new church on Whittaker Street in Southwest Detroit. Much has changed: more people coming, a beautiful sanctuary to worship in, and more ministry opportunities. (kids summer programs, tutoring, Narcotics Anonymous group)
Look Back at a Decade
by Miriam Rossow on December 31st, 2019
As we move into 2020 we wanted to take a look back at a few highlights from the past decade. Enjoy a glimpse of what God has done at Christ Our Savior these past 10 years and look ahead with hope at what He will do in the coming years. ...We look forward into this new decade with a knowledge and hope that Jesus continues to guide us as we continue to follow where He leads.
CHRISTmas Blessings 2019
by Miriam Rossow on December 23rd, 2019
Saturday, December 21 Christ Our Savior opened up their doors to the community. We served over 300 families as we handed out baskets of non-perishable food, hams, and rolls.
by Miriam Rossow on December 17th, 2019
This Saturday our church opens up the doors to bless the community with our CHRISTmas Blessing baskets. This is the 7th year we will be hosting this event. We serve breakfast, hand out large baskets of non-perishable food items, give a ham and some fresh produce. All the while we try and make it a festive atmosphere as we provide Christmas music.
Blessed To Be A Blessing
by Miriam Rossow on December 13th, 2019
In my journey the past few years as a fellow traveler with the Family of God community, I have grown in compassion, respect, humility and gratitude; while allowing myself to be more vulnerable and transparent.
Conversation with Vicar Tyler Cronkright about Family of God
by Miriam Rossow on November 22nd, 2019
Vicar Tyler Cronkright sat down with the Michigan District this last summer and shared about the ministry at Family of God. "Why are you helping someone like me? In that moment everything stops and we share the love of Jesus in that moment." Vicar Tyler
