Our Response to the Coronavirus

While on this earth, in the middle of sin, brokenness, and illness, we are called to trust and hope in Jesus as our strength and provider and we are called to care for and love all of creation. As this virus spreads, we are called to heed the advice of those placed around us. We are not called to panic or lose hope.
We know that this virus is spread through personal contact. We also know that those with compromised immune systems and who are elderly are more susceptible to the adverse effects of the virus. So, it is with the current issue of the Coronavirus. We have been told by all the experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the best health prevention entity in the world, that we need to prepare for the corona virus. We need to plan. That doesn’t mean we are going to become infected, but we could. Or our children and grandchildren who are at a minimal risk of becoming ill could become carriers of the virus to their grandparents or others. Read More

In fact, one myth that is often promoted is that if you talk about suicide with people who are depressed (or with anyone at all), this will get them to consider it themselves when they would have never considered it otherwise. On the contrary, not talking about suicide with those who are at risk leaves them isolated from voices of compassion and love—voices of concern and truth that they desperately need to hear. Read More
