Forever Young Outing
By Linda Waara, Forever Young Coordinator
It is a very weird world for us now as we live through the COVID era. Yet with the assurance of God’s love for us, His care and faithfulness, we can confidently face the future armed with His magnificent promises of: “do not fear, for I am with you”, the Lord is my Helper, I will not be afraid” and “the Lord will watch over you both now and forevermore”.
Come August, we thought it would be time for us to safely venture out together on a Detroit River boat excursion/tour! Diamond Jack’s River Tours offers a one-hour tour of river and history highlights! Fresh air, on the river, a transformed riverfront, Detroit and Windsor shore fronts and skylines, an enjoyable boat ride and history lesson! Doesn’t it sound great? We’ve all been inside, isolated for too long!
Diamond Jack’s dock is in the shadow of the RenCen – on the corner of Rivard and Atwater St. They have revamped their tours, dates, prices and policies due to our newly changed world. Their tours are weekends only for now, a reduced senior price of $10, passenger capacity is cut in half for social distancing, with inside and outside seating. No food or drinks can be brought aboard but there are snacks available. There is free parking available at the Cullen Plaza Riverwalk.
The boat ‘casts off’ at 1:00pm with boarding beginning at 12:30pm. There is a fast food snack shop with picnic tables at the dock where we could have lunch before we board – perhaps meeting there at 11:00-11:30.
Friday, August 28th is the date we’ll be going, no minimum or maximum amount of people are required. We would like you to email or call Barb Karowich or Linda Waara soon to let us know your questions and thoughts and if you are interested in going. We can meet each other at the boat dock no later than 12:30pm for those interested in driving themselves or we can carpool from the COS parking lot – leaving at 11:00. Let us know your plans for transportation.
