Service with a Smile

“Whoever would be great among you must be your servant...even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” To imagine that the King of all would humble himself to the service of those under him seems contradictory to the world and what it teaches. This personal God who came to be among His people and creation is one of the things that sets him apart from all other gods. Our God, in Jesus, came to be among us and serve us and in this He calls us to do the same. Our stewardship is about a heart attitude in the giving of time, money, & gifts. My daughter asked me on Sunday, ‘Is it ok to want someone to give back to you when you give?” In church we often focus on the idea that our giving and service is not dependent on the response of the other person. This is entirely true. And points us to the focus being about the heart of why you are serving. If you are only serving those who will return the favor & you refuse to love & serve those who don’t or can’t that is a problem. It is not however unreasonable to want someone to be kind & serving to you as well. Jesus did call us to serve & humble ourselves as He did. He did that while we were still enemies. Our service because of Him can change hearts to serve as well. How will you serve the people God places in your life?
