Next Steps to Becoming a Member

Church membership is an expression of your faith in Jesus. He has called you to be part of His family. The church is the way Jesus has connected His family here on earth. Being a member of Christ Our Savior identifies you with this specific local body and allows you to take a step in following Jesus with other committed followers.

Step One- Worship

Believers gather together every week to receive from God. We hear His word and receive promises through the scripture readings, the sermons, the liturgy, and the music. We receive forgiveness when we confess and are absolved of our sins publicly and in prayer. Forgiveness and God Himself are also present for us in Communion weekly. Worship is a major focus of our life together.  We encourage you to join us for worship and establish a pattern of regular attendance for 8-10 weeks.

Step Two- Connect

Christ Our Savior has many community groups that can help you connect and begin to belong here. There are Bible Studies through out the week to encourage you on your faith journey. There are social groups that can help you find friends and a place for you and your family. There are service groups that strive to serve our church community and the greater Livonia area. We encourage you to find one or two of these places to make connections with other followers of Jesus. Take a look through our church calendar to find events that fit your interests, and contact our Director of Outreach to learn what groups might fit you.

Step Three- Discovery

As you consider connecting your self and family to Christ Our Savior through membership we want you to get to know us as a church family. That means we want you to understand our mission and vision as well as the way we do business. Depending on your background we ask you to participate in one or both of the following classes.
  • The Lutheran Foundations class will give you an overview of the major teachings of the Bible and the Lutheran church. This class is for those NOT transferring active membership from another LCMS congregation.
  • New Member Orientation is for those who are transferring an active membership from another LCMS congregation AND for those who are taking the Lutheran Foundations class. This orientation will give you  an understanding for the vision at Christ Our Savior and discover how you can use your spiritual gifts to God's glory at Christ Our Savior.

Step Four- Find Your Place

After you have taken the New Member Orientation we will match you with a current member who will help guide you as you find the places that you want to use your gifts, time, and talents to the service of God's church and people. We want this to be easy and helpful so that you can find a place to call home.
